Takeaway: Sometimes the best vacation days aren’t the ones packed with adventure — they’re the ones where you do almost nothing… and love every second of it.
This is post 4 of 10. If you can find the first, second, and third post here.
🍕 The Wood‑Fired Pizza That Stole the Show
There’s a little wood‑fired pizza truck on the property — unassuming, cozy, and absolutely legendary. One bite of their white pie and I was ready to write poetry about mozzarella.
It became our unofficial dinner spot. Vacation rule: if it’s good, repeat it. And we did.

🧩 Puzzle Mode: Activated
While I was devouring books like they were beach snacks, Richard was deep in puzzle world — the kind of focused, peaceful hobby that feels exactly right on island time.
There’s something charming about the contrast:
- He’s assembling 1,000 tiny pieces
- I’m tearing through chapters
- Both of us are in our happy places
It’s the kind of quiet companionship that vacations are made for.
📚 Five Books Down & Counting
I don’t know what it is about Kauai, but I read like a machine there. Maybe it’s the breeze. Maybe it’s the lack of responsibilities. Maybe it’s the fact that reading by a pool feels like the height of luxury.
Either way, by mid‑week I’d already finished five books and cracked open book six like a woman on a mission.
🌴 Poolside Perfection
Afternoons were dedicated to the pool — sunscreen, hat, water bottle, book. A simple formula. A perfect one.
There’s a special kind of bliss that comes from floating in warm water while staring up at palm trees swaying like they’re dancing just for you. It’s the kind of moment that makes you forget what day it is. Which is exactly the point.
😌 The Art of Doing Nothing
This day didn’t have a big adventure. No epic hike. No dramatic waterfall. No packed itinerary.
Just pizza. Puzzles. Pages. Pool.
And honestly? It was one of my favorite days.
Because sometimes the best part of vacation is remembering how good it feels to slow down and simply be.
